A piece of the Mississippi River, turned into a piece of Louisiana.
Louisiana River Gator was created in 2024 from a remarkable piece of driftwood from the Mississippi River, purchased in its original shape from Bargeboard NOLA.
I didn't want to change what the river had already created. The long, weathered shape of the wood became part of the inspiration itself — and eventually, I saw a gator.
At 58 inches long, this is one of my larger and more unusual originals. I used acrylic and milk paint, working with the natural texture, imperfections, and character of the wood rather than trying to cover them. The result is a piece that feels distinctly Louisiana: a little rugged, a little unexpected, and deeply connected to the place it came from.
The wood had a life before it ever became art. It traveled through the Mississippi, was shaped by water and time, and eventually found its way into my hands.
Now, it gets another life.
This is a one-of-one original. The shape of the wood itself could never truly be recreated — and that's exactly what makes this piece special.
From the Mississippi River, made in Louisiana, and ready for wherever it travels next.
